
The UNP has decided to suspend its Kandy District MP A. R. M. Abdul Cader from the working committee for voting with the government in parliament. UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake in a letter addressed to Cader has informed him that a decision has been taken to suspend the latter from the working committee for voting with the government.

The United Kingdom has updated its travel advisory on Sri Lanka by removing the advise against travel to the four northern provinces of Mullaitivu, Killinochchi, Mannar and Vavuniya. The British High Commission in a statement said that the advice follows a security assessment carried out by a High Commission delegation, led by Deputy High Commissioner Mark Gooding, which visited the Northern provinces in June.

The Standard Chartered Bank has initiated litigation in the Commercial Court in the UK against the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) on the hedging deal, and the trial has now been fixed for March 28, next year, authoritative sources said yesterday.
The Bank has sued the CPC on the charge of breach of commercial activities with regard to the hedging deal. The other banks have also gone for arbitration.
The arbitration negotiations were conducted on July 26, in Singapore. Among these banks, the Dutsche Bank of Germany has gone for arbitration on the charge that the Investment Protection Guarantee Treaty had been breached in this case.

A comparative experiment into the industrial use of the new explosive charger along with dynamite explosives was conducted at a quarry located at Kotadeniyawa in the Diwulapitiya area, on 27th July.

'Water gel' the innovative environmental friendly Sri Lankan production is to replace dynamite explosive chargers. The product is to soon take its place in the Sri lankan market cutting of costs prevailed over the use of dynamite for industrial purposes.
The product came to light following instructions given by Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa in substitute for the expensive and environmental hazardous dynamite. This new explosive cracker is manufactured at the Kelani Fire Works Limited, factory located at Meerigama.

A life saving craft, specifically designed and made by Haiti-based Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineer (SLEME) troops grabbed the focus of attention of those visitors to the Sri Lankan battalion (SRIBAT) headquartered in Leogane, Haiti under UN Peace-Keeping Mission (MINUSTAH). In addition, SRIBAT had also introduced a locally-made life saving floating jacket among hurricane-prone areas and the civil population.
Hurricanes in ruined Haitian towns of Leogane, Miragon, Petitgoave and a long patch of area, bordering the seas are a common occurrence between mid-July and November each year, bringing further destruction to the earthquake-ravaged Haiti.

Sri Lanka’s Economic Development Minister and External Affairs Minister during their five day visit, held talks with Japanese government officials on mutual cooperation between the two countries, says the External affairs Ministry.

President said that when he visited the schools in the rural areas the students do not ask for buildings or other resources but for teachers.n the contrary the schools in the urban areas have excess of teachers.
